I am a student at Denison university and am a part of Studio Art at Denison. The assignment for this project was to create a typeface that we can call our own. The name of the font that I designed is called "Cherry Bomb".

Below I include my thought process, my different versions of how I wanted my font to look, as well as a pangram and some sketches.

The main method to making my font was using the shape builder tool to create as simple as a design as possible to create a direct touch. There were some moments while I worked where I couldn't help think of where to fit everything in. I sketched a lot, but once I went to illustrator I didn't play around too much, other than actually moving the letters around. Overall we used  great teamwork to complete the assignment. I also used "command z" and "copy n paste" very often to reduce the inconsistency in letters.

My other big idea was to insert the names of victims from police brutality inside the letters themselves. However, as impactful as this idea would have been, to make your own font and then a tinier font that has to be consistent just would have taken too much.

Another favorite aspect of mine was the fact that the pink circles behind the letters were accidental and were originally intended to keep sizing in mind. yet  I liked the circles so much as a pop of color that i decided to keep it. Plus, with the women's march, I am really happy for my insertion of pink in the work.

Enjoy!
I call this font cherry bomb because it gives me sort of band/rocker vibes, as well as a feminine touch from the pink. It's not like the pink is bringing the wrong vibe in there, but rather than being sensitive, the pink brings the letters to people's attention. I just tried my best to go out of my comfort zone and what we knew what was allowed. I immediately think of the song Cherry Bomb as well and find that it fits within many different atmoshpheres.
